The Role

As a Cover Supervisor, you will supervise classes during teacher absences, ensuring students remain engaged with pre-prepared learning activities while maintaining a positive learning environment.
There is no requirement to plan or mark lessons.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise classes across a range of subjects
  • Deliver pre-set work provided by teaching staff
  • Support students to remain focused and engaged in learning
  • Promote positive behaviour and uphold school expectations
  • Maintain a safe and purposeful classroom environment
  • Take and record attendance in line with school procedures
  • Report concerns and incidents to appropriate staff members
  • Support students where appropriate during lessons
  • Adapt confidently to different school settings and year groups

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Experience working with young people in education, childcare, coaching, mentoring, youth work, community or similar settings
  • Confidence managing groups of young people
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Reliable, professional and organised approach
  • Ability to work independently and follow school procedures
  • Commitment to supporting young people's learning and wellbeing

Desirable Requirements

  • Previous Cover Supervisor experience
  • Experience working within a secondary school setting
  • Experience as a Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Mentor, Youth Worker or Sports Coach
  • Relevant education, coaching, childcare or youth work qualifications

Pay and Progression

Pay for this role ranges from £100 to £130 per day, depending on experience, qualifications and assignment requirements.
The highest available rate of £130 per day would typically be offered to candidates with previous Cover Supervisor experience, substantial experience working with secondary-aged students, strong behaviour management skills and a proven ability to confidently manage classes independently.
