Salary: Outer London M1-M6, £39,739-£50,617, dependent on experience

A large 3-form entry primary school in Hayes is looking for a Year 1 Teacher to join its team from October 2026 on a full-time, long-term temporary basis, providing maternity cover through to July 2027.

This is a full-time class teaching role within KS1, working as part of an established Year 1 team. With three classes across the year group, you'll have the opportunity to work collaboratively with colleagues while taking responsibility for your own class.

The Role

You'll take responsibility for a Year 1 class, planning and delivering engaging lessons across the curriculum and supporting pupils' academic and personal development.

Responsibilities include:

  • Planning and delivering engaging lessons across the Year 1 curriculum.
  • Teaching English, maths and foundation subjects.
  • Delivering phonics and supporting pupils' early reading development.
  • Assessing and monitoring pupil progress.
  • Adapting teaching to meet different learning needs.
  • Establishing clear classroom routines and maintaining positive behaviour.
  • Supporting pupils' confidence, independence and personal development.
  • Working collaboratively with the Year 1 team to share planning, resources and ideas.
  • Maintaining effective communication with the wider school team.

Who Should Apply?

Applications are welcomed from both ECTs and experienced primary teachers.

You'll need:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Primary teaching experience, with Year 1 or KS1 experience preferred.
  • A good understanding of the KS1 curriculum and early reading.
  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills.
  • The ability to plan and deliver engaging lessons.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a year group team.
  • A positive and flexible approach.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and supporting children's wellbeing.
