Pastoral Support Assistant

Harrow, North West London | Full-Time | Long-Term Opportunity | Monday to Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm

Pay: £110-£120 per day | Weekly PAYE

Role Summary

As a Pastoral Support Assistant, you will work closely with students across Key Stages 3 and 4, providing targeted pastoral support, mentoring and guidance to help them overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide pastoral support to students across KS3 and KS4.
  • Build positive and professional relationships with students.
  • Support student wellbeing, behaviour and personal development.
  • Deliver one-to-one and small-group mentoring sessions.
  • Help students overcome barriers to learning, engagement and attendance.
  • Support positive behaviour, punctuality and attendance strategies.
  • Encourage confidence, resilience, independence and positive decision-making.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SEND staff, pastoral teams and families.
  • Identify and report safeguarding, wellbeing and behavioural concerns appropriately.
  • Contribute to a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Candidate Requirements

  • Positive, empathetic and professional approach.
  • Experience working with children or young people in a professional, voluntary or community setting.
  • Experience in education, youth work, mentoring, tutoring, coaching, pastoral support or SEND support is desirable.
  • Knowledge or experience supporting young people with ADHD, autism, dyslexia or SEMH needs is advantageous.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build professional relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  • Ability to remain calm, resilient and solution-focused in challenging situations.
  • Commitment to supporting the wellbeing, development and achievement of young people.
  • Right to work in the UK.

Pay and Progression

This role offers a daily rate of £110-£120 per day, paid weekly through PAYE.
The highest rate of £120 per day is typically available to candidates who can demonstrate previous school-based pastoral experience, youth work or mentoring experience, strong safeguarding knowledge, experience supporting students with SEND or SEMH needs, and relevant qualifications in education, youth work, coaching, counselling or child development.
