Pastoral Support Assistant - Brent

Are you a graduate or experienced professional looking to build a career supporting the wellbeing, personal development and pastoral needs of young people?

We are seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate Pastoral Support Assistant to join a secondary school in Brent on a long-term, full-time basis, with the potential for a permanent appointment.

This is an excellent opportunity for graduates and individuals with experience in education, youth work, mentoring, counselling, coaching, special educational needs (SEN), or other roles supporting children and young people.

The Role

You will:

  • Provide pastoral support to students across KS3 and KS4.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with students.
  • Support students' wellbeing, behaviour and personal development.
  • Deliver one-to-one and small group mentoring sessions.
  • Help students overcome barriers to learning and engagement.
  • Support attendance, punctuality and positive behaviour.
  • Promote confidence, independence, resilience and positive decision-making.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams, SEN staff and families where appropriate.
  • Identify concerns and communicate them to relevant members of staff.
  • Contribute to a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment.

About You

We welcome applications from candidates who:

  • Are positive, approachable, patient and empathetic.
  • Have experience working with young people, either professionally, academically or through voluntary work.
  • Have experience in education, youth work, mentoring, coaching, tutoring, SEN or pastoral support (desirable).
  • Have experience supporting young people with additional needs, including ADHD, autism, dyslexia or SEMH (advantageous).
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Can build positive professional relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  • Are passionate about supporting the wellbeing and development of young people.
  • Remain calm, resilient and confident in challenging situations.

Working Pattern

This is a full-time role. The school's standard working hours are 8:00am to 4:00pm, Monday to Friday. However, we welcome conversations about flexible working arrangements and will consider requests in line with the needs of the role and the school.
