School Caretaker Opportunity

The Role

As a School Caretaker, you will help ensure school premises remain safe, secure, clean and well maintained throughout the school day and during opening and closing procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Open, secure and monitor school premises
  • Carry out routine maintenance and minor repairs
  • Complete regular health and safety inspections
  • Support the smooth day-to-day operation of the school site
  • Assist with contractors, deliveries and visitors
  • Maintain external areas and communal spaces
  • Report maintenance, security or health and safety concerns
  • Respond to site requests and operational issues
  • Help ensure a safe and welcoming environment for students and staff

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience in a caretaker, facilities, maintenance or similar role
  • Practical maintenance and basic repair skills
  • Good understanding of health and safety responsibilities
  • Reliable, punctual and professional approach
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Flexible attitude towards shift patterns and working hours
  • Strong communication and organisational skills

Desirable Requirements

  • Previous experience working within a school environment
  • Knowledge of site security procedures
  • Experience working with contractors and site compliance checks

Pay and Progression

Pay for this position ranges from £15 to £20 per hour, depending on experience, responsibilities and assignment requirements.
The highest available rate of £20 per hour would typically be offered to candidates with substantial caretaking or facilities experience, strong knowledge of health and safety procedures, experience carrying out site maintenance independently and previous experience working within educational or public sector environments.
