The Role

As a Cover Supervisor, you will supervise classes when teaching staff are absent, ensuring students remain engaged with their learning and lessons run smoothly.
There is no requirement to plan or mark lessons, making this an excellent opportunity to gain classroom experience while developing behaviour management and leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise lessons across a variety of secondary school subjects
  • Deliver pre-prepared learning activities provided by teaching staff
  • Support students to remain focused and engaged throughout lessons
  • Promote positive behaviour and uphold school expectations
  • Maintain a calm, safe and productive classroom environment
  • Take accurate lesson registers and record attendance
  • Report incidents, concerns and safeguarding issues appropriately
  • Provide additional support to students where required
  • Follow school policies and procedures at all times

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Experience working with secondary-aged students or young people
  • Confidence managing groups independently
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Reliable, punctual and professional approach
  • Ability to follow instructions and school procedures accurately
  • Adaptability and confidence working in different school environments
  • Commitment to supporting students' learning, wellbeing and development

Desirable Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Cover Supervisor
  • Experience as a Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Mentor, Youth Worker or Sports Coach
  • Experience working within a secondary school setting
  • Relevant education, childcare, coaching or youth work qualifications

Pay and Progression

Pay for this role ranges from £100 to £130 per day, dependent on experience, qualifications and assignment requirements.
The highest available rate of £130 per day would typically be offered to candidates with previous Cover Supervisor experience, substantial experience working with secondary-aged students, strong classroom and behaviour management skills and the ability to confidently supervise a range of subject areas independently.
