Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Working under the direction of classroom teachers to support learners aged 11 to 16
  • Providing targeted academic support to students at risk of falling behind
  • Assisting pupils with additional learning needs and adapting materials to suit their needs
  • Supporting pupil progress in core subjects such as English, Maths and Science
  • Monitoring and recording student engagement and feeding into school-wide support strategies
  • Helping maintain a calm, productive and respectful learning environment
  • Collaborating with colleagues across the SEN and pastoral teams

Candidate Specification

  • A graduate from any subject area with a genuine interest in education and working with young people
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Emotional resilience, patience and empathy
  • Strong organisational skills and a willingness to learn
  • A commitment to safeguarding, equality and child protection
  • Experience working with young people in any setting (voluntary or paid) would be beneficial but not essential
