SEND Teaching Assistant

Tradewind Recruitment is seeking dedicated SEND Teaching Assistants to support pupils with additional needs in mainstream primary schools across Croydon.
These opportunities are ideal for experienced SEND Teaching Assistants and individuals with relevant experience supporting children or young people who are looking to develop a career within education. Roles may include 1:1 support, small-group intervention work and classroom-based support alongside teachers and SENCOs.

Role Summary

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support to pupils with a range of additional needs, helping them engage in learning, develop independence and build confidence within the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 support for pupils with additional needs
  • Support pupils with ASD, ADHD and emotional regulation needs
  • Assist pupils' learning, communication and social development
  • Work alongside teachers, SENCOs and other support staff
  • Support EHCP targets and agreed support strategies
  • Adapt learning activities and resources to meet individual needs
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Encourage participation in classroom activities
  • Help create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment
  • Monitor progress and share observations with school staff

Candidate Requirements

To be considered for this role, you should have:
  • A minimum of 3 months' experience supporting children or young people in an education, care or SEND setting
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • A patient, consistent and empathetic approach
  • Confidence supporting pupils with additional needs
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a wider school team
  • A commitment to safeguarding and supporting children's wellbeing
The following would be advantageous:
  • Previous Teaching Assistant experience
  • Experience supporting SEND within a mainstream primary setting
  • A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification
  • Experience supporting ASD, ADHD, SEMH or SLD
  • Experience providing personal care support where required

Pay and Progression

This role offers £93-£100 per day PAYE, dependent on qualifications and relevant experience.
Candidates with at least three months' experience supporting children or young people within education, care or SEND settings may be considered from £93 per day PAYE.
Candidates who hold a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification and have more than 12 months' experience supporting pupils with SEND, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, SLD or personal care needs, are more likely to be considered for the top rate of £100 per day PAYE.
