SEMH Teaching Assistant - Behaviour Support
Location: Hammersmith & Fulham (near Putney Bridge)
Start Date: January - July 2026
Hours: 8:30am - 3:00pm, Monday-Friday, Term Time Only
Setting: SEMH Secondary School - Small Class Sizes

A warm, inclusive and progressive SEMH secondary school in the borough of Hammersmith & Fulham is seeking a committed SEMH Teaching Assistant / Behaviour Support TA to join their team from January 2026.

This is an incredibly rewarding role supporting students with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs across KS3 and KS4. You will help pupils access a differentiated mainstream curriculum, develop positive learning habits, and make meaningful academic and personal progress.

The school is just a short walk from Putney Bridge Station (District Line) and is well-connected by local bus routes. With small class sizes and a collaborative, experienced staff team, you will be supported every step of the way.

The School Is Looking for Someone Who Is:

  • Firm but fair, with a genuine passion for working with pupils who present complex behaviour challenges
  • Motivated, enthusiastic and proactive
  • Skilled in effective behaviour management and confident supporting de-escalation
  • Experienced within SEN or alternative provision settings
  • Calm, resilient and able to build positive, trusting relationships
  • Committed to supporting students' emotional wellbeing as well as academic progress

Ideal SEMH TA Requirements

  • Previous experience supporting children with SEMH or behavioural needs
  • Understanding of trauma-informed and restorative approaches
  • Ability to deliver and support differentiated learning
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • High levels of patience, empathy, and resilience
  • Ability to follow behaviour plans and contribute to de-escalation strategies
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff
  • A proactive, reflective attitude and a desire to learn and grow in the role

TA Compliance Requirements

  • Right to work in the UK
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
  • References covering the last two years
  • Proof of address and relevant ID
  • Up-to-date CV detailing full education and employment history
  • Overseas police check (if applicable)
