Tradewind Recruitment is seeking a DT Technician to join a welcoming secondary school in East London from November 2026.

This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with Design Technology, workshop, engineering or technical experience to support practical learning within a well-resourced Design Technology department. You will play an important role in helping students access safe, engaging and effective practical lessons across a range of specialist areas.

Role Summary

As a DT Technician, you will support teaching staff and students by preparing materials, maintaining equipment and ensuring workshops operate safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare tools, materials and equipment for Design Technology lessons.
  • Maintain workshop areas, machinery and specialist equipment.
  • Support practical lessons and student projects.
  • Carry out routine maintenance and safety checks.
  • Manage stock levels and arrange resources where required.
  • Ensure health and safety procedures are followed at all times.
  • Support staff with practical demonstrations and curriculum projects.
  • Maintain accurate records relating to equipment and resources.

Candidate Requirements

To be considered for this role, you should have experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Design Technology
  • Resistant Materials
  • Product Design
  • Engineering
  • Woodwork
  • Workshop, manufacturing or technical environments

Previous experience within a school environment may be beneficial but is not essential. Candidates with relevant experience gained through engineering, manufacturing, construction, technical or workshop environments are encouraged to apply.

You should also demonstrate:

  • Strong organisational skills.
  • A safety-conscious approach to work.
  • Good communication skills.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Confidence working within an educational environment alongside secondary-aged students.

Pay Information

  • £100-£130 per day, paid weekly via PAYE.
  • Pay rates are determined by relevant qualifications, technical skills, workshop experience, Design Technology knowledge and the requirements of the assignment.
