Tradewind is working with a specialist school for pupils aged 7-16 with autism, social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, attachment and trauma.
The school has a strong multi-disciplinary team including therapists, carers, educationalists and clinical staff, working together to provide nurturing, therapeutic environments.
The school site is extensive and set in beautiful countryside, with lots of outdoor space, specialist facilities (therapy rooms, sensory, etc.), a calm and bespoke learning environment, and small class sizes so pupils get tailored support.
Role Overview
We are looking for compassionate, resilient, and motivated Teaching Assistants to join our team to help support children and young people to learn, grow and thrive. You'll work under the guidance of class teachers, therapists and the SEN/Behaviour leads to support learning, wellbeing, and independence.
Typical responsibilities will include:
Working 1-to-1 or with small groups of pupils with SEN / communication / sensory needs
Assisting with personalised learning plans, adapting learning materials and pace to suit needs
Supporting social, emotional and behavioural development, helping students manage transitions, regulation, routines
Helping with communication support, sensory integration, mobility or personal care where needed
Monitoring progress, feedback to teachers / therapists, small-group interventions
Contributing to a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment
Liaising with colleagues (therapists, clinical team, carers) and parents/carers as needed
What We're Looking For
Experience working with children or young people, ideally with SEN, autism or SEMH (but enthusiasm, willingness to learn and adaptability are also very welcome)
Good communication skills, patience, empathy and consistency
Ability to follow guidance from teachers and therapists, but also show initiative
Resilience, emotional awareness and capacity to work in challenging situation
The school is in Higher Disley, Stockport, close to rural surroundings. Public transport links are limited, especially outside peak times. For many staff, having reliable private transport or making consistent travel arrangements will be essential.
