Job Description
At Tradewind Recruitment, we're committed to connecting passionate professionals with exceptional schools to make a real impact with students who need it most!
Do you have the empathy, resilience and experience to support children and young people with SEMH needs? Tradewind Recruitment is looking for passionate Behaviour Support Workers to work across specialist SEMH schools and alternative provisions in Bristol.
These settings support pupils who may:
- Have been excluded from mainstream education
- Be diagnosed with SEMH, ADHD, ADD or ASD
- Have experienced trauma, unstable home lives or complex emotional needs
- Display high levels of anxiety, dysregulation or oppositional behaviours
If you've worked with disengaged learners or hard-to-reach young people and you're motivated by helping them re-engage, regulate and feel heard - we want to hear from you.
The Role: Behaviour Support Assistant
You'll be part of a committed, trauma-informed team focused on improving outcomes for students who thrive in smaller, more relational settings.
Your day-to-day may include:
- Supporting children 1:1 or in small groups
- Using de-escalation and co-regulation to manage crisis moments
- Building trusted relationships that put emotional safety first
- Helping pupils make positive choices through consistent boundaries
- Working alongside teachers, pastoral teams and SEN staff to deliver support plans
- Encouraging engagement with learning through patience and creativity
Full-time availability is highly desirable as long-term, ongoing placements are frequent.
What You'll Need
We're looking for individuals with:
- Proven experience supporting students with SEMH or challenging behaviour
- A resilient, compassionate and calm approach under pressure
- Strong relationship-building skills with young people who struggle to trust adults
- Confidence using positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques
- Availability Monday to Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm
- Relevant experience from schools, residential care, youth work, mentoring, alternative education or support services.
Qualifications are a bonus - but experience, attitude and emotional intelligence are what count most.
