Learning Support Assistant - Alternative Provision

Maldon Area, Essex

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a committed and resilient Learning Support Assistant to join a forward-thinking alternative provision setting in the Maldon area.

This is a rewarding role supporting children and young people with a range of SEND, SEMH and additional learning needs. The provision is committed to helping pupils engage positively with education, develop essential social and life skills, and prepare for their next stages of education, employment or training.

The Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play an important role in supporting pupils both academically and emotionally. You will work closely with teaching staff, the SENCO and leadership teams to deliver tailored interventions and support pupils in their educational journey.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Building positive and professional relationships with pupils and acting as a positive role model.
  • Delivering tailored intervention programmes and monitoring pupil progress.
  • Supporting teaching and learning, including lesson preparation and resource development.
  • Using ICT to support engagement and learning outcomes.
  • Promoting positive behaviour and contributing to a safe, structured and inclusive environment.
  • Supporting transition and reintegration plans where appropriate.
  • Recording and reporting on pupil progress, engagement and achievement.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues, families and external professionals.
  • Supporting safeguarding procedures and maintaining awareness of pupil wellbeing.
  • Participating in training and ongoing professional development opportunities.

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Have experience working with children or young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs.
  • Be able to build positive, consistent and professional relationships with learners.
  • Demonstrate a calm, resilient and professional approach when supporting behaviour.
  • Possess effective communication skills and work well as part of a team.
  • Be committed to supporting positive outcomes for children and young people.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to safeguarding, equality and inclusive practice.
  • Be willing to engage with training and professional development opportunities.

Experience within education, youth work, care, residential support or alternative provision would be beneficial, although applications from candidates with relevant transferable experience are welcomed.
