Job Description
The Opportunity: Elite English Teaching on a Flexible Schedule
Are you a dedicated English Specialist looking for a permanent, small-fraction contract that offers true flexibility?
We are seeking an enthusiastic Teacher of English to join a highly prestigious independent school in the Blackburn area. This 0.38 contract is perfect for an experienced teacher looking to keep a foot in the classroom, a professional balancing family or academic commitments, or a writer looking for guaranteed income alongside their creative work.
Known for its deeply motivated pupils, small class sizes, and rich literary tradition, this school provides an environment where you can focus purely on text exploration and analytical writing without the standard mainstream burnout.
Key Responsibilities
Inspire a Love for Literature: Plan and deliver high-quality, engaging English Language and Literature lessons that challenge students across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE).
Cultivate Strong Voice: Help students develop advanced essay-writing, analytical, and creative writing skills.
Small Group Focus: Take advantage of smaller-than-average class sizes to provide deep, meaningful feedback and close textual guidance.
Department Collaboration: Work closely with a supportive, high-performing English and Humanities faculty.
What We Are Looking For
Qualifications: A degree in English Literature, Language, or a closely related discipline, ideally with QTS/QTLS (though independent sector experience or exceptional unqualified specialists are welcome).
Subject Passion: Deep curriculum knowledge up to GCSE, with the ability to bring classic and contemporary texts to life.
Flexibility: Happy to work a fractional 0.38 timetable (specific days/hours to be discussed at interview to align with the school's option blocks).
Why Choose This Role & School?
Paid to Scale (Pro-Rota): Competitive remuneration inline with Main / Upper Pay Scales, paid directly via true PAYE.
Exemplary Behaviour: Teach in a calm, respectful environment where books are valued, students genuinely want to learn, and parental support is fantastic.
Genuine Balance: Enjoy the security of a permanent, long-term contract alongside the breathing room that a targeted part-time schedule provides.
Beautiful Environment: Teach in a school that priorities staff well-being, offers generous non-contact planning time, and provides free on-site parking.
Easy Commuter Access Across Lancashire
Situated in a prime Blackburn location, the school is highly accessible via the M65, A59, and M6 networks, making it a straightforward, stress-free commute for teachers travelling from:
The Ribble Valley / Clitheroe (15 mins)
