Teaching Assistant - Specialist SEN Provision

About the Provision
These settings support children and young people aged 4-19 with significant learning needs. Learners attend with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and require highly individualised support due to needs including:
* Severe learning difficulties (SLD) and profound learning needs
* Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) with complex needs
* Communication and interaction differences
* Learning significantly below age-related expectations, impacting most areas of learning and development
* Curriculum's designed to develop communication, independence and life skills in a safe, supportive environment


What You'll Do
As a Teaching Assistant supporting across these specialist provisions you will:

  • Support individual learners and small groups through highly personalised learning programmes
  • Assist with communication, sensory and behavioural needs using strategies tailored to each pupil
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists (speech & language, occupational, physiotherapists) and multi-agency teams to deliver holistic support
  • Help create an inclusive, structured environment that encourages pupil engagement and confidence
  • Promote independence and life skills across all areas of the school day


Person Specification

We are looking for candidates who:

  • Have experience working with children/young people with complex SEN needs
  • Are patient, resilient and able to flex their approach to meet diverse learning profiles
  • Understand or are willing to learn communication support strategies (e.g., TEACCH, Makaton, visual supports)
  • Have excellent teamwork and communication skills
  • Value nurturing relationships and a strengths-based approach to learning
