1:1 Teaching Assistant (SEMH) - Barnet
Full-time | Immediate Start | Long-Term Opportunity

Tradewind Recruitment is seeking compassionate and committed 1:1 Teaching Assistants to support young people in secondary schools with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in the London Borough of Barnet. These full-time position offer an immediate start and the potential to become a long-term or permanent role for the right candidates.


The Role:

As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will provide focused support to a student who requires additional help to access learning and manage their emotional wellbeing. Your role will involve working alongside educators and support staff to ensure a consistent, individualised approach that meets both academic and pastoral needs.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering 1:1 support to a student with SEMH needs in a structured setting

  • Supporting engagement, motivation, and appropriate classroom behaviour

  • Helping to adapt learning resources to suit the student's ability and needs

  • Recording and monitoring progress and behaviour

  • Liaising with staff, SEN professionals, and families to ensure joined-up support


The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, SEND, or behavioural needs

  • A calm, patient and resilient approach to managing challenging situations

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well within a team

  • A genuine passion for helping young people achieve their potential

  • An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
