Job Description

1:1 Teaching Assistant (TA) for a Year 1 Child with Down Syndrome

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a delightful Year 1 boy with Down Syndrome as he reintegrates into school life after the holiday period. This is a unique opportunity to make a real difference in a young child's educational journey within a supportive school environment.

About Our School:

Our client is a quaint, local Church of England school in the FY6 area with a strong reputation for high standards of behaviour and academic excellence. They are committed to ensuring all children leave our school with the key basic skills especially reading, writing, and math to equip them for further learning. They want their children to be successful and work hard to provide a broad, balanced, and creative curriculum where each child can develop their own interests, skills, and talents.

Their classes typically have around 30 children, and they pride ourselves on providing a nurturing and high-achieving setting. Our primary also offers a range of extra-curricular activities, encouraging children to 'have a go' and try something new. Our students have many opportunities to excel in a variety of sports and performing arts, including learning different musical instruments. They have a dedicated car park available for staff and bus route.

About the Role:

Your primary responsibility will be to provide close, consistent support to a single pupil. This child has a limited vocabulary, and a key part of your role will be to use engaging, play-based activities to facilitate learning and development. You'll need to be creative and resourceful, turning everyday games and social interactions into valuable learning opportunities that promote social engagement with you and his peers. This role requires someone who is not only a skilled educator but also a compassionate and empathetic individual who understands the importance of play in a child's development.
