Speech and Language Teaching Assistant (Primary and Secondary Aged Pupils with Special Needs)
Location: Ashford
Full-time: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 3:30 pm
Daily Rate: £83.33

Tradewind Recruitment is looking for a dedicated and caring Speech and Language Teaching Assistant to support primary and secondary-aged pupils with special needs, including non-verbal students, in Ashford. In this role, you'll provide crucial support to students as they build essential speech and language skills.
About the Role
This position offers a unique opportunity to make a significant difference for students with special needs who face challenges in communication. As a Speech and Language Teaching Assistant, you'll work directly with students, helping them develop communication skills that enhance their confidence and engagement in the classroom.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide tailored support to students with diverse speech and language needs, working one-on-one and in small groups.
- Assist in implementing specialized learning strategies and speech therapy exercises designed by speech and language therapists and SEN coordinators.
- Support students in improving communication skills, including listening, understanding, speaking, and social interaction.
- Collaborate closely with teachers, SEN staff, and other professionals to implement individual education plans (IEPs) and monitor student progress.
- Create an inclusive, positive environment that encourages students to engage and succeed academically and socially.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Experience working with children and young people, particularly those with speech and language needs or non-verbal challenges.
- A passion for supporting students in overcoming communication barriers.
- Excellent communication skills, patience, and a compassionate approach to working with pupils facing speech and language difficulties.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers and other professionals to provide cohesive support.
- Interest in gaining hands-on experience in special educational needs (SEN) and speech and language development in a school setting.

Requirements
- An enhanced DBS on the update service or a willingness to apply (cost £46, reimbursed after 20 days of work).
